Starting English for Business (English language teaching)

Starting English for Business (English language teaching)

by Donald Adamson (Author)

Synopsis

This is a coursebook for students who have had some basic instruction in English, and who are now at the pre-intermediate level. It concentrates on fundamental aspects of the language within a business context and aims to diagnose problem areas for resolution by practice. The course can be used with students at various levels, for example, on an intensive beginners level, on a false beginner level, where the student's knowledge has been haphazardly acquired, and on a review level for more advanced students seeking to refine and perfect their skills in business English. The book comprises 24 units on Language in Use , a section on business correspondence, a tapescript, an answer key and a multi-language word list. A C60 cassette to which the tapescript (above) refers, is available separately and offers material for the initial listening tasks as well as guidance on stress and intonation guidance. Each unit begins with listening work; other units offer controlled practice material, activity work and language reference explanations. Much of the work in the course can also be used in a self-study mode with students referring to the answer key section as required. The language reference section can be used by all students above the lowest level of competence and the activity sections can be undertaken by students working in pairs, if necessary.
