Born in Jerusalem in 1938, Amos Oz is Israel's finest living writer. 1988 marked the twentieth anniverary of My Michael, which established Oz as a major international novelist, and was later made into a film. His works, which include The Hill of Evil Counsel, In the Land of Israel, A Perfect Peace, Black Box and The Slopes of London, have been translated into many languages and have won several literary awards.
