Synopsis

Flying with the Lafayette Squadron and winning the Croix du Guerre, Charlie Halifax is shot down in 1918 and bady wounded. He deserts but is recaptured and exiled into the Foreign Legion in North Africa. In a bid for freedom he escapes to Paris and attempts to become the first man to fly non-stop across the Atlantic.

Author Bio
Paul Watkins is the son of Welsh parents. He was educated at the Dragon Scool, Eton and Yale. His first novel, Night Over Day Over Night, was nominated for the Booker Prize. His second novel, Calm at Sunset, Calm at Dawn, won the 1990 Encore Prize for best second novel. This is his third novel.
