Synopsis

Horses are a vital part of many people's lives, but there is so much to learn about horsecare and so many conflicting philosophies that it's difficult to know where to start. "The Horse and Pony Care Bible" is the brand-new, definitive guide for anyone who already owns a horse or is thinking about getting one. Starting with the basics of assessing whether you are ready for horse ownership, this book leads you through the processes of choosing and buying a horse or pony - from identifying the right animal to providing a proper home, tack and equipment. It also includes: vital rules for feeding your horse; advice on day-to-day care and handling; information about keeping your horse healthy, preventing accidents, and what to do if the worst happens. You will learn how to forge a strong rider-horse relationship and how to find the right trainer to help you progress, whether you want to compete or ride purely for pleasure. There is advice and information on competing, from preparation to traveling, and coping with competition nerves, plus tips on how to combine horse ownership with family and work commitments. "The Horse and Pony Care Bible" takes the best from traditional horse care but updates it with practical, scientific and medical information, and takes into account lifestyle demands on the modern rider. Authoritative, comprehensive and accessible, this will be a perennial friend to consult throughout your horse-owning years.
