Free at Last!: Diaries 1990-2001

by Tony Benn (Author), Ruth Winstone (Editor)

Synopsis

This volume brings Tony Benn's "Diaries" right up to date, covering events from the Gulf War to the rise of New Labour, the attacks on the World Trade Center and the war in Afghanistan. Tony Benn's "Diaries" have received a chorus of superlatives and have themselves altered our view of recent history. In scope and accuracy they have been compared to Pepys. In this, the new and final volume, he covers British politics during three wars, five party leaders, two prime ministers, the rise of New Labour and the transformed world situation after 11 September 2001. It will combine the personal and the political more completely than earlier volumes, and will contain an untrammelled view of every aspect of contemporary politics from a committed activist and observer who is now, as he makes clear, 'free at last'.
