  This is a selection of poems which are designed to represent new poetry from the north of Britain. Among well-known names such as Jon Silkin, Matt Simpson and William Scammell there are new poets as well as poets with a strong connection with the North East, such as Fleur Adcock and David Constantine. This anthology expresses the open-mindedness of the editor and although there is no feminist bias, half the contributors are women. Although no generation predominates, it reminds the reader that older poets such as Anne Ridler and Elizabeth Jennings are still writing today. Also included in this book are new poems by Dannie Abse, Helen Dunmore, Ruth Fainlight, Penelope Shuttle, George Szirtes and Charles Tomlinson.
