This book contains a wealth of information for the practising and would-be sport diver, provided by contributors who back their theoretical knowledge with an active, practical and successful expertise in the field of sport diving. Learning to dive is but the beginning of years of fun. However, as no book can be a substitute for experience itself, the reader is advised to use this book in conjunction with the appropriate practical instruction provided by the British Sub-Aqua Club, BSAC schools and other recognized sport diver training agencies. The authors' accumulation of experience and knowledge of sport diving cannot, of course, be compressed into a single book. Nevertheless, the authors believe that the information presented here will give the reader, in clear and exciting form, the essentials for safe and enjoyable diving. Further specialist publications in, for example, advanced diving, diver rescue, seamanship, equipment, underwater photography, underwater archaeology and marine biology are planned to complement this, the first in the series. On almost every page a topic is presented in both words and pictures, and very often a single picture suffices to explain a particular technique or skill. The many hundreds of illustrations which form the basis of this book are often self-explanatory and convey information both vividly and simply.
