This book provides an excellent and very readable insight into the more analytical aspects of strategic management. The book aims to strike a balance between theory and application and to this end it succeeds admirably. Most of the examples are from Europe, a refreshing change in an area dominated by North America. The book discusses concepts in strategic management and has a very good chapter devoted to financial aspects. Discussion of experience curves, the product market portfolio, and other matrix approaches follows with the relative merits and attendant problems fully aired. The PIMS project (Profit Import of Market Strategy) is covered in a chapter and a final section of the book is devoted to scenario planning.
