Synopsis

This work is part of the Reading 2000 series, which is designed to be a forward-looking reading programme for juniors. It is a wide-ranging and practical package of materials designed to meet the language development needs of the 7-11+ age group. The programme comprises a selection of listening, talking, reading and writing activities which aim to give a base for further study. The series offers topic readers which link reading skills with environmental studies as part of a wider language programme. Although Reading 2000 is a modular programmme, schools do not need to use the whole of the scheme to derive benefit from these readers which can be used on their own. This volume looks at some of the different festivals celebrated around the world from family and community festivities to carnivals and Calypso. Catherine Allan is a Primary Headteacher in Strathclyde and is co-author with James Love of Scope for reading and Resource readers (Holmes McDougall). James Love is an ex-Primary Head and college lecturer. Helen McLullich is author of Wordpower (Oliver and Boyd). The main supporting titles are the Reading 2000 Core Readers.
