Richard D Jones joined the Regular Army as a junior soldier in the 1960s. Enlisting initially in the Royal Artillery, he later became personally and professionally involved with small-calibre weapons and ammunition. After completing Regular Army service in 1994, he joined the UK Ministry of Defence Pattern Room - arguably the world's most comprehensive Working Reference collection of small arms. Formerly the Custodian and Head of Unit until the transfer of the collection to the Royal Armouries, Richard continues to provide a similar service at the National Firearms Centre in Leeds. Richard is married with two grown-up children. His hobbies include participation in all forms of shooting, travel, and reading, primarily non-fiction.
