Dog Collar

Dog Collar

by RichardSurman (Author)

Synopsis

An affectionate look at clergy and their dogs, exploring the eccentricities of the owners and the many and varied charms of their dogs. The author of Church Cats and Cathedral Cats turns his attention - and his camera - on clergy and their dogs. From Cornwall to Northumberland, from inner city to rural country parishes, and with dogs ranging from the aristocratic to the distinctly mongrel, Richard Surman captures the immense diversity of distinctive human-canine relationships. The Rev Pat Hopkins of Otford has four dogs ranging from Harry the Dachshund, who keeps getting under people's feet, to a river-swimming Rottweiler called Misty - while Father Richard Williams from Hay-on-Wye has a standard poodle called Jimmy who attends all his services and has been knighted by the self-styled King of Hay, Richard Booth. With distinctive photography of both the dogs and their respective people in and around the churches they serve, this is a great gift and a fascinating insight into the lives of today's clergy - and their dogs.
