Throw out the rule book! For anyone who wants to learn a language Collins need to know? takes a brand new slant, throwing out fusty grammar rules in favour of showing you how the language works and getting you talking. This unique course contains 2 CDs and a 128 page full-colour book. CD 1 contains 14 conversations based on everyday situations from ordering food to buying shoes, plus related vocabulary and quizzes to check your progress. Each section is tracked so that you can concentrate on the bits you want to do. CD2 contains revision material including numbers, days, months, colours, verbs, opposites, etc. Again, each topic is tracked for you to focus on what you want to learn. The book contains transcripts of the conversations (with both the English translation and pronunciation of the French). Each conversation contains 4 or 5 grammatical points which are highlighted and explained. In 'Saying hello', it might be the use of informal and formal, in 'Shopping' it might be the way plurals are formed. Points are simple to start with and build up gradually so that by the time you reach the last topic, 'Eating at friends', the past tense can be introduced. The second half of the book contains the revision material which you find on CD2. Examples are given to illustrate how things like colours, dates and time are used in everyday life.
