Spark Island is an online learning channel for children aged from 3-12. It has been designed, built and tested in close co-operation with teachers and education experts to help practise and develop core skills in a highly interactive and enjoyable way using all the capabilities of digital media. The content of the website is divided into a teacher and parent domain so it is designed to be used in the classroom and at home. Based on Spark Island's learning environment and the appealing characters that live there, this series of activity books should provide lots of opportunities for children to practise core skills at home. The books are set in two distinct areas of Spark Island (Sparklantis and Sparkopolis) and are aimed at two different age groups 5-7 and 7-11 year olds. Each area has its own environment and its own set of characters, so in the underwater world of Sparklantis children will encounter the Hair Care Crew consisting of a group of mullets, a pike and a plaice. In Sparkopolis they might come across the Elders (or Wizards) that ride around on magic unicycles. The Spark Island KS2 Maths activity book reinforces essential topics covered at school and includes lots of activities to do at home - puzzles, investigations, things to make, games, jokes and facts.
