  Active Science is a complete skills-based course for 11-13 year-olds. It works on the principle that pupils learn best doing things rather than just reading about them, and by getting continuous expert feedback. Each pack includes pupils' books, copymasters and a teacher's guide. The pupils' books included single or double-page spreads, most of which include a specific assessment opportunity focusing on one of the skill areas, whilst the Extras at the end of each spread provide activitie to extend the topic. Each pupils' book is accompanied by a set of copymasters, containing both a bank of worksheets and a range of assessment material. The worksheets provide a variety of activities to support and extend activities in the pupils' book. Assessment material includes, end-of-unit tests, self-assessment sheets, a test of basic practical and data-handling skills, record of achievement sheets, and end-of-course tests for each skill area. The teacher's guide explains fully the ideas behind Active Science and gives detailed guidance for each spread which includes a list of apparatus needed, appropriate video resources, specific criteria for each assessment opportunity and suggestions for further activities and investigations.

  Active Science 3 comprises a pupil's book, a set of copymaster worksheets for the use of the pupil, a teacher's guide, an assessment activities pack (A), which provides a range of activities that fit naturally into the teaching scheme used (in the form of photocopiable masters) and an assessment activities handbook, which offers guidance to teachers on the use of pack A and which fits into other areas of the curriculum. This set of publications completes the Active Science set of materials for Key Stage 3 pupils. This pupil's book covers a range of areas of interest such as the earth and its properties, survival, reaction and control, the environment, human bodies and space. The information in this book is designed to be reinforced by the use of the copymaster worksheets and guided activities derived from the teacher's guide, the assessment activities pack A and the assessment activities handbook A.
