Synopsis

The story of the Anfield Boot Room, the spiritual home of Liverpool FC and one of the most sacred inner sanctums in English soccer, as told by players past and present, club officials and the fans. This celebratory book provides a fascinating insight into the legendary room that was the beating heart behind Liverpool FC's strategic thinking and tactical planning; a place where only a privileged few could enter, and whose secrets remain a mystery even now, some forty years on. What made the Boot Room so special in the eyes of not just Liverpool but the rest of the soccer world? Who were the characters that made it such an awe-inspiring place? What were the secrets behind its success and the reasons for its eventual demise? The answers can be found here. The author -- an established expert on the club having written their official illustrated history -- provides the background narrative to a series of in-depth interviews with a host of Anfield legends including former boot room boys Ronnie Moran, Roy Evans and Sammy Lee; ex-players like Tommy Smith, Mark Lawrenson and Ian St John; club directors Peter Robinson and Tom Saunders; and, of course, the fans. From the unforgettable Shankly era and success of Paisley, Fagan and Dalglish through to the turbulent Souness years and the gradual decline under Roy Evans, this is a timely expose of one of the most cherished institutions in English soccer.
