by Rhs (Author), Jill Billington (Author)

Synopsis

The most memorable feature of any garden is its colour. From the soft blues and creams of a calm, relaxing mood to the vivacious, hot colours that energize the spirit, Jill Billington explores how to translate favourite colours and preferred moods into individual garden schemes. Jill also explains how colour can be used in the overall design of the garden to achieve harmony and balance, inject contrast or provide emphasis and focus.

Media Reviews
Not only is colour a personal preference but it can dictate how a garden appears - cool, calm, hot, muted. It can also lengthen borders or widen narrow plots, draw the eye away from or to garden features with clever use of its infinitesimal range of hues. Garden writer and designer Jill Billington, in association with the Royal Horticultural Society, brings an inspirational look at colour uses in the garden, utilising her artist's eye to complement, enhance, attract or detract. Cool blues and mauves, fresh greens, sophisticated whites. Brooding purples, vibrant oranges, sunny yellows. All looked at with a view to plant partnerships, situation and effect. Full of inspirational ideas and accompanied by glorious colour photographs and watercolour planting plans, it will give a hesitant, colour-shy gardener the courage to strike out and transform their garden from merely colourful to a more definitive statement. - Lucy Watson
