The London Jungle Book

The London Jungle Book

by Bhajju Shyam (Author)

Synopsis

Bhajju Shyam, of the Gond tribe of central India, disarmingly spins the west's anthropolgical gaze back on itself in this stunning illustrated travelogue. With radical innocence and great sophistication, Bhajju records his observations of London, transforming the city's street, pubs, and monuments into strange and unimagined bestiaries. A witty and ceaseless inventive artist, he uses the visual language of his native tradition to re-imagine the city as it has never been seen before.

A colourful collection of images capable of making the most jaded metropolitan refocus and smile. Independent A beautiful book. I would like to give it to everyone I love when they are traveling. John Berger
Author Bio
Hailing from the Gond tribe of Madhya Pradesh in India, Bhajju Shayam's captivating visuals and easy storytelling style fuse his perceptions of the modern world with his tribe's unique visual language. His work has been exhibited widely in India, as well as in Milan, The Hague, Paris and London. Perhaps the most versatile artist of the Gond art tradition, Bhajju uses inherited forms in very current and expressive ways, while experimenting with innovative subjects and new ideas. There are new influences in my work, but my art is still the same , he has said, reflecting upon his success. I never expected this kind of response; I thought people would find my way of looking at the world odd .
