Media Reviews
[A] marvelous book ... Diana [Newall] and Christina [Unwin] offer a bold thematics, set in a timeline, from antiquity to modernity. Their wonderful topics include: flamboyant gothic, glowing grotesques, the dramatic and the divine, floral perfection, compositions of refinement, patterns of richness, bold colors and abstracts, tartan grids, all accompanied by acute commentary and contextual reference -- Michael Shanks, Stanford University, USA
An excellent source book featuring patterns from the worlds of textiles, paintings, manuscripts and architecture across the centuries. Actually, it's a really interesting book to simply dip in to from time to time, it seems to contain so much more than you imagine it's 288 pages could accommodate, somehow. * Craft & Design *
A fascinating history of the evolution of pattern ... a delightful treasure-trove of information and ideas, both for the serious student of textiles and anyone seeking inspiration * Workshop on the Web *
Visually stunning ... a useful sourcebook for any designer or anyone interested in the history of art and design. * Welsh Country *
A sumptuous book ... both looks and feels marvelous * Artbookreview.net *
