The Vision of Dorothy Kerin

The Vision of Dorothy Kerin

by Morris Maddocks (Author)

Synopsis

Dorothy Kerin was the founder of Burrswood, where church and medicine work together. A pioneer in the Church's ministry of healing, she was also a mystic. In a vision she was given the task to "heal the sick, comfort the sorrowing and give faith to the faithless". Bishop Maddocks tells the story of Dorothy's life, assessing both her vision and the lasting influence of her work. He tells of her miraculous healing and the subsequent visions, examining her spirituality and drawing comparisons with the great mystics of the Church. He goes on to chart the course of her ministry, first in Ealing before and during World War II, then in Speldhurst and finally at Burrswood in Kent until her death in 1963. A final section looks at her legacy, relating her vision to the contemporary situation at Burrswood and in the work of the nationwide Acorn Christian Healing Trust. The author and his wife, Anne, are co-founders and directors of the Acorn Christian Healing Trust and have lived at Burrswood since 1987. He was apointed adviser on healing to the Anglican Archbishops in 1983, and has also written "The Christian Healing Ministry" and "A Healing House of Prayer".
